About Us

Wright Brothers Tree Farm, Inc. is a family run operation, approaching it's 18th year in business. We are members of the National Christmas Tree Association and the Florida Christmas Tree Association. The farm is located about 16 miles outside of Tallahassee Florida in northeastern Leon County. The terrain is mostly rolling hills with red clay subsoil and good topsoil. Because of this good topsoil, we are able to grow Virginia Pine, Red Cedar, Leyland Cypress and Arizona Cypress quite well. Sand pine does not do well for us because of the clay. We now have about 20 acres of Christmas trees in production and grow container plants for folks who want to plant their tree after the holiday season. It is our goal to provide a relaxed experience in the country in addition to the quality products we grow.

Short history: This farm was one of only a handful of government type farms created back in the late 30's to early 40's on Sunray Road. There were only seven or eight farms carved out on the 1500 or so acres surrounding the road. This farm had most of the land located on the northern side of the road and about 6 acres on the south side with a four room wooden framed house. There were several owners of the farm until our parents, Peter and Norma Wright, decided to purchase and move their family from central Florida in 1957. For the next 15 years the land became a weekend farm (or so it was planned) raising cows, horses, chickens, goats, and guineas not to mention several dogs and tons of cats to keep the rodent population down. As kids, we used to load up the family and friends from town in the tractor drawn wagon to drive around the property searching for a native Christmas tree. Most of the time, it was a red cedar that was cut because of it's natural conical shape. A few times we were lucky enough to find a short needled pine. In the 70's the house and surrounding land was sold but the farm was retained and rented out to local farmers who grew watermelons, corn, etc. Around 1986, Mr. Charles S. Beck had an idea to have a choose and cut your own Christmas tree farm. Beck planted red cedar, Virginia pine and took a chance on an fairly unknown tree called Leyland cypress. This tree has grown to become the premier cut Christmas tree of the South. After several years of doing this sometimes back breaking work, Mr. Beck decided to sell his growing business to the present owners Mark and Chris Wright.

Several years back, we decided to start growing containerized trees because of growing demand. We felt we could grow a more shapelier tree than most of the untrimmed ones offered by the average nursery. Most grow container trees for landscape purposes. We continue to offer the red cedar, Virginia pine, Leyland cypress and now the beautiful bluish colored Arizona cypress for cutting from the field. Our company plans to expand and offer rare and unusual landscape plants in the future.
